73% Of Brits Love The Way They Smile – Do You?
Ask yourself this question: are you happy with your smile, and if not – what are you willing to do about it?
The Oral Health Foundation has uncovered key research linking oral health and how positive a person feels about the quality of their smile. The 2018 study surveyed 1,300 Brits to determine how happy they were with their smile and whether their teeth were a factor in this evaluation. The results were clear – 73% of respondents were either highly or exceptionally positive about their smile, with people in this category believing that their approach to oral health was the determining reason behind their smile confidence. Conversely, those people who chose to smile much less also considered themselves to have dental problems that needed addressing. If you belong in this minority category, then it’s time to take action and make 2019 the year that you give yourself the smile you deserve.
Evaluating Your Smile
Start by looking in the mirror or speaking to a close friend or family member who you trust and come up with a list of things you’re not happy about in terms of your smile. Are you worried about bearing that tooth you chipped playing rugby all those years ago? Or perhaps you’ve recently quit smoking and are embarrassed about the staining that years of nicotine has caused? Whatever the reason for your lack of confidence, it can no doubt be fixed or improved immensely by a smile makeover. Visiting a dental professional specialising in cosmetic treatments should be your next step to discuss your options.
If you have gaps between your teeth, any chips or discolouration, then Veneer Dentistry Essex professionals explain that veneers are an excellent option for covering the front of your teeth, which will hide any imperfections that exist. This type of treatment is an alternative to orthodontic work, but needs to be considered carefully as the process is irreversible; during the treatment, the top layer of your existing enamel will need to be removed before the veneer can be fit and fixed into place. Talking to your dental professional will help you reach the right decision for you.
If you’re missing a tooth entirely, then this can significantly affect the appearance of your smile, as well as damaging your self-confidence. But there’s no need to put up with this when dental implants are available. They’re long-lasting, look incredibly natural and behave just like your own teeth do in terms of eating and drinking. You can have a single tooth or multiples replaced, and the procedure can be completed in as little as a day.
One of the most common dental treatments is a simple teeth whitening procedure. As you age, your teeth can go from being sparkly white in youth to yellow and stained in your later years due to poor lifestyle choices such as smoking, or drinking red wine or coffee. But whitening treatments can erase the discolouration of your teeth, lightening the shade and restoring you with confidence.
If you’re frustrated by your condition of your teeth, then there’s no time like the present to make some changes and put the sparkle back into your smile.
